Undergraduate Scholarships

The MechSE Outstanding Scholars Program was established in 1995 to provide an additional incentive to top high school seniors as they consider their academic futures. The talented students who are selected for this prestigious honor and who subsequently enroll as MechSE Outstanding Scholars receive an annual scholarship that is independent of any need-based financial aid awarded by the University. The scholarship is renewable for each of three succeeding years if the students remain in the curriculum and maintain at least a B+ average. Most Scholars retain their scholarships for four years.

The number of scholarships we are able to offer is entirely dependent on the private individual and corporate partner support we receive for the program; no state or federal aid is used. Many exceptional candidates do not receive offers to participate because of the limited number of scholarships available. Fewer than 10 percent of our undergraduates—between 60 and 70—hold Outstanding Scholar status in any given year. Private and corporate partner support is essential if we are to expand the Outstanding Scholars Program and enhance the success and prestige of the department and its students.

Among the scholarship endowments and corporate partners that have been supporting the MechSE Outstanding Scholars Program are:

  • James W. Ashbrook Scholarship Fund
