Mohamed Radwan, an upcoming junior in MechSE, has known he wanted to attend the University of Illinois for a long time.

“I am from Urbana [Urbana High School] and I knew this campus very well before becoming a student. It has always been my dream to be one of the students that I have seen walk up and down those streets every day,” said Radwan.

Radwan enjoys his classes, especially the ones in mathematics. “I have always loved math so they have been some of my favorite classes. Other favorites so far have been the design courses in mechanical engineering, as it has been great to see my product develop throughout the semester.”

In his free time, Radwan enjoys playing and watching soccer. He is also a member of Illini Motorsports and plans to work on the chassis team.

He said he is grateful for his scholarship support. “The fact that I was chosen to be given this scholarship really puts confidence in what I am doing and inspires me to do my very best in my education so that the money is spent on someone that deserves it.” He was honored to be a recipient of the 2017-2018 Helen McDonnell Memorial Scholarship.

“This scholarship has helped me and my family greatly. My parents do not have enough to pay much for my tuition and this scholarship gives me enough so that I do not have to take out loans to pay for my tuition.”
